We gave James a Mad Science Birthday this year. The "Doctors" all got safety goggles as soon as they came in and we did all kinds of experiments and games. We had plastic beakers full of candy and little magnifying glasses as party favors. It was super fun. I think I had more fun than the kids.

James' cake didn't turn out exactly as planned. We ran out of buttercream and I didn't have time to get more ingredients and we also couldn't find dry ice anywhere (it was going to be legendary to have the dry ice coming out of the top of the PVC pipe) so we made due with cotton candy from a neighboring gas station. However it is very humid here so the cotton candy wouldn't tease out and didn't hold up very well at all.
But, it is not like any of these things affected the taste of the cake.

What a clever idea! I love it!
What a fantastic cake! Another picture I will never let my boys see. I made a cake a couple weeks ago and although everyone said it tasted good, it could not have looked more disastrous. It kind of split down the middle, all the beautiful strawberries on top sort of slid down the sides, etc etc etc. Decorating cakes makes me curse.
Oh, that was no party. That was life. Science is just how we roll. Science and mentos bombs.
Oh my gosh you are so creative! You always go all out for your kids birthdays, you're such a fun mom! What a fun birthday theme!!!
Hey Elizabeth! It's fun to see you again and to spy on your cute family. Jill Nelson moved into my ward here in Utah and we noticed on Facebook that we were both friends with you guys! Small world! I'll have to spy on you more often :)
